7A finals: Cloquet-Carlton girls advances to state, Denfeld boys fall short

DULUTH, MN — The Cloquet-Carlton girls soccer team advanced to state with a thrilling overtime win over 7A top seed Chisago Lakes on Thursday night.

After equalizing late in regulation, Olivia Jameson scored in overtime to win the game for the Jacks. They advance to the state tournament, which starts on October 22.

Duluth Denfeld suffered a heartbreaking loss to St. Francis, after overcoming a 2-0 defecit. Dante McDonald netted a header with 1:33 remaining in regulation to force overtime. However, the Saints responded just over 12 minutes in to extra time, thwarting the comeback effort.
