CROMWELL, MN- The Cromwell-Wright football team is coming off a state semifinal appearance in 2018. If the team wants to get back there, they’ll have to do it with just 14 players.

It’s the lowest amount of players in program history.

Of the 14 players, 5 starters from the state semifinal game will return to the Cardinals this season. That includes senior tight end Taye Anderson and sophomore linebacker Zevvus Smith.

The team knows they face an uphill climb but head coach Jeff Gronner says his team is making it work.

“The challenges are a lot of guys need to know different spots. Because of obviously if there are injuries. Every guy has to know 2 spots. Sometimes 3 spots and I have a kid I’m asking him to know 4 or 5 different spots, said Gronner.”

“It’s kind of a big change, we lost a lot of guys last year. So we’re going to all have to step it up. Play a couple positions. It’s just new. It could go either good or bad,” added Taye Anderson.

“Well we obviously want to get back there, it was a lot of fun. Just to get back there and win games. But we just want to stay healthy and complete a full season first,” said Zevvus Smith.

Cromwell-Wright opens the season on August 30th at home versus Floodwood.
