HERMANTOWN, MN- First day of practice for a number of Northland area football teams. That includes the defending Section 7AAAA champions, the Hermantown Hawks.
The team spent their first day of camp testing speed and agility.
Mike Zagelmeyer enters his 2nd year as head coach of the Hawks.
He says the team plans to implement things not traditional to Hermantown football, creating a more balanced offense.
As most teams deal with key seniors leaving, Zagelmeyer says this year’s team is all about making your own name.
“We had some great playmakers last year but these guys, they want to make their own names. And we do have some athletes that you guys may not know who the names are or go with the faces yet. So, We’re excited, they’re excited. Cause they want to prove that last year wasn’t just a magical year,” said Zagelmeyer
“We just want to live up to our expectations. Because since we made a big run last year with our new head coach Mike. We just want to work hard and get there again,” added senior captain, Noah Torgerson.
Hermantown opens the season on August 29th at Moose Lake/Willow River.
