Samberg to stay with UMD, 4 Bulldogs sign pro deals

DULUTH,MN – Shortly after winning the 2019 National Championship, many UMD fans were wondering who was staying in the Northland.It’s been a few weeks and we already know that goalie Hunter Shepard will return for his senior season.

On Monday, sophomore Dylan Samberg told the Winnipeg Jets that he’s staying in Duluth for his junior season. The Hermantown native was originally taken in the 2nd round of the 2017 NHL draft. Samberg is eying a third straight national championship.

Outgoing senior Peter Krieger will continue his hockey career. The Oakdale,MN native has signed a pro contract with Västerviks IK, a Tier II team in Sweden. Last season, Krieger scored 9 goals and had 15 assists in 41 games. Prior to UMD, Krieger played for the University of Alaska.

2019 NCAA Frozen Four MVP and 2018-19 UMD Team Captain Parker Mackay has inked his deal with the Texas Stars. Mackay agreed to a one way deal with the Dallas Stars AHL team on April 23rd. He will attend the development camp this summer and will be at Dallas’ training camp prior to the 2019-20 NHL season.

Sophomore Mikey Anderson signed a three year entry level contract with the Los Angeles Kings. He was taken in the 4th round by the in 2017.

Junior Riley Tufte will forego his senior season as he signed a three year entry level deal with the Dallas Stars.
Tufte was originally drafted in the 1st round of the 2016 NHL draft.
