SUPERIOR, WI – As he laced up his skates to play the top-ranked team in the state, Superior goaltender Dayton Podvin had more than hockey on his mind.

“There was something really emotional for me, my grandma, who came to the game and like, my grandpa just died, and it was sort of a big deal, she’s never been to one of my hockey games, ever, and after the game I gave her a smile and just a wave, and it made my night,” said Podvin.

It was an emotional night for the senior, in his first season in net for the Spartans. Matt Halverson tells the story of Podvin’s memorable night, in Superior’s first win over Hudson in three years.
