MINNEAPOLIS, MN – It was quite the scene pregame with the UMD men’s hockey team being honored. Hunter Shepard threw out the first pitch and did it with an impressive fastball over the plate.

“Like a week ago, so I didn’t think I’d be nervous but I didn’t want to embarrass myself on TV or anything, and no one in my family ever played hockey so growing up, my dad and uncle coached all my baseball teams all the way through high school, so baseball has always been a pretty special part of my life so it was pretty special to throw out the first pitch tonight.” said Shepard.

“It was cool, I didn’t know who was going to do it. I thought it was going to be Hoagie to be honest with you. I heard it was Shep, and it was pretty fitting, so I know I know he loves baseball. We have a couple intramural softball championships under our belt, so I figured it was fitting that Shep got his nod now.” said Peter Krieger
