DULUTH,MN – The holiday break is over and UMD men’s hockey is back and preparing for its first game since December 8th.

Freshmen goalie Ben Patt recently had shoulder surgery and is expected to miss the rest of the season. But the injury report isn’t all bad. The Bulldogs will welcome back senior center Peter Krieger and sophomore Nick Swaney.

Team captain Parker Mackay is will also make a return this weekend. Associate head coach Jason Herter says he brings leadership back on the ice.

“He’s always a key component because of his competing, and you know what, Parker knows it. Carlson Kuhlman last year was like that, they make mistakes, but they never did it being uncompetitive, slow, they bring that something and a lot of times, coaches don’t know exactly what it is. It’s that one thing that comes and it gathers everyone together and I think Parker gets our bench rallied.” said Associate Head Coach Jason Herter.

#4 UMD will face #3 Minnesota State-Mankato in the 1st round of the Desert Classic. Puck drops on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
