2019 Twin Ports shipping season underway

DULUTH, MN – The first non-coast guard vessel of the shipping season departed the Twin Ports Friday afternoon.

The Kaye E. Barker passed under Aerial Lift Bridge just after 12 p.m.

It’s expected to sail to Two Harbors where it will load iron ore bound for Indiana Harbor.

The Duluth Seaway Port Authority expects five other ships to head out of the ports in the coming days.

The Soo locks open on Monday, so we can expect our first arrivals in the Twin Ports some time next week.
