January is trafficking awareness month, with focus on intervention in Twin Ports

DULUTH, MN — Human trafficking is a problem across this country, including right here, in the Twin Ports.

To raise awareness of the issue, city leaders are joining victim advocates throughout the month of January in a massive education campaign.

It’s all part of Trafficking Awareness Month. This year’s theme is “No Wrong Door Northland.”

Organizers say the focus of this year’s campaign is training and intervention in an effort to be proactive when it comes to sex trafficking.
“With our help, [we] can build their capacity to play a part in prevention of beautiful, valuable, important members of our families, our neighborhoods, our schools, and the greater community,” says Kathy Hermes, of Lutheran Social Services, “from being swept into the undercurrents of sex trafficking.”
Several events and training opportunities are taking place in the Twin Ports throughout January.
