UPDATE: Man rescued after being stranded for days outside of vehicle near Superior Hiking Trail

5:57 p.m. — Duluth Police say a 36-year-old man has been rescued and hospitalized after being stranded in a remote area for days near the Superior Hiking Trail.

According to police, officials were called to the area near the trail and the Lake Superior Zoo shortly before 4 p.m. for a person in need of medical assistance.

Fire crews helped rescue the man out the ravine, and police say they believe he may have been there for three to four days.

Assistant Fire Chief Clinton Reff says the victim is hypothermic, but in stable condition.

Reff said the man had been laying outside of his vehicle and exposed to the elements.

The man is being hospitalized for what police say are non-life threatening injuries.

At this time, officials don’t know how the man got into the ravine.

5:23 p.m. — One person has been rescued after being stranded in a Duluth ravine for two days.

According to Duluth Assistant Fire Chief Clinton Reff, the victim had been laying outside of his vehicle, exposed to the elements, for the past two days.

Officials say they do not know how the man got into the ravine, however they do say he is hypothermic, but stable.

Rescue crews used ropes and a Utility Task Vehicle to rescue the man.

Crews were called to the end of Waseca Street in the Fairmount neighborhood around 4:10 Monday afternoon.
