Victim identified in fatal Mesaba Avenue crash

DULUTH, MN — Police have identified the man killed in a single-vehicle crash on Duluth’s Mesaba Avenue early Thursday morning.

Gabriel Stunkel, 24, was traveling down Mesaba when he failed to negotiate a curve, and then crashed into a light pole near West 5th Street around 4:30 a.m., police said.

Stunkel was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say he wasn’t wearing a seatbelt.

The crash remains under investigation
