Enbridge considering Ashland and Iron counties for Line 5 reroute in lieu of lawsuit

ASHLAND/IRON COUNTIES, WISCONSIN – We are learning where Enbridge is considering rerouting the Line 5 pipeline after the Bad River Band filed a lawsuit to keep it off their land.

Enbridge is now looking at routes through Ashland and Iron counties, as seen on this map.

Enbridge says they are “currently conducting environmental and archaeological surveys along an approximate 40-mile survey corridor being evaluated to replace approximately 20 miles of the existing Line 5 pipeline in Ashland and Iron counties.”

Enbridge says they have survey permission from Iron County, but they do not need approval for the land they are surveying in Ashland.

“We have survey permission from Iron County and are not crossing county land in Ashland County that would require approval,” an Enbirdge Communications Specialist shared with KBJR 6.
