LA POINTE, WI– After Madeline Island’s only fire hall was destroyed by fire in March, La Pointe town officials say the rebuilding process will likely be pushed back.
According to La Pointe Town Administrator Lisa Potswald, they didn’t receive any general contracting or fire supression bids for the new fire hall construction project during the bidding process.
Potswald said they plan to wait about a week, sort through their options, and then most likely put the general contracting portion of the project out for bid again.
Initially, they had hoped to have the building in place by the end of 2019; however, Potswald says that date will likely be later now.
It will also depend on the ferry’s ability to travel to Madeline Island during the winter, as some of the equipment needed to build the fire hall would be too heavy to travel across the ice road.
