WILLOW RIVER, MN– A body has been recovered from a submerged vehicle in Pine County.
According to the Pine County Sheriff’s Office, they responded to a report of Ford Escape submerged in Kettle River just before 4 p.m. Monday.
Two people, the driver, 43, and another passenger, 48, were able to make it out of the car and to shore.
A second passenger’s body, 47-year-old man, was recovered by a dive team just after 6 p.m.
The car was submerged 14-feet in water.
The body of the deceased passenger was taken to the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy. The name is being withheld pending notification of family.
Officials say the vehicle was on a road that is marked for no motor vehicle traffic. The road leads to a “day use” area at the river.
The driver of the car was arrested and taken to jail. He’s facing a charge of criminal vehicular operation, according to authorities.
Officials say they don’t know exactly how the car ended up in the water.
All involved are from the Pine County area.
The incident remains under investigation.

According to the Pine County Sheriff’s Office, a car was found submerged in the Kettle River on River Run Road which is about six miles south of Sturgeon Lake.
Officials say three people were in the car. Two people were rescued and one is still unaccounted for.
No word on the age or condition of the people involved.
