DULUTH, MN — The man injured when the North Shore pizza train crashed into the side of his car Thursday night is in serious condition.

The crash happened around 7 p.m. Thursday in Lakewood Township near McQuade Harbor.

Authorities say the driver, Kurt Vanhala, 67, failed to yield to the train, and add he may have been under the influence.

His car was totaled, and Vanhala was hospitalized.

None of the 115 passengers aboard the train were injured, and the train suffered only minor damage.

Railroad spokespeople say the train was going 29 miles per hour at the time of the crash.
