SUPERIOR,WI-  Hundreds gathered at Barker’s Island for Lake Superior Day on Sunday.

Starting back in the early 90s, Lake Superior Day is an effort to celebrate and appreciate the Great Lake.

The event kicked off Sunday morning with a paddle boarding race.

Later in the afternoon the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the city of Superior celebrated the completed Barker’s Island Beach Restoration project.

Attendees could also go on restoration-focused boat tours and sample Lake Superior-inspired beer.
