DULUTH, MN– A popular market in the Central Hillside neighbor is set to return.
Market organizers say the event, which launched in May 2018 with the goal of pulling healthy options on a bus line and within walking distance of many neighbors in the neighborhood, will start up again next Tuesday, and will be open weekly from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. until October 1st.
The market will be located at 503 E 3rd St., in the Essentia and Gloria Dei parking lot
Local vendors will be selling fresh produce, seedling transplants, baked goods, canned goods, meat, and more.
With help from Hunger Solutions Minnesota and Essentia Health, SNAP customers are matched one to-one, up to $15 dollars per market day, when they use an EBT card.
Children under 18 will receive free four-dollar tokens to spend on produce through the Power of Produce (PoP) Club, with that funding coming from Essentia Health and University of Minnesota Extension.
In its inaugural season, a total of 130 families participated in the SNAP match program, and 268 youth participated in the PoP club, which included 60% of youth whose families receive food assistance.
