DULUTH, MN– With Grandmas Marathon only two weeks away..runners are nearing the finish line for training.
Runners are putting the finishing touches on their final preps for Grandma’s marathon.
Lori Paisley, a runner in Duluth says, “I’ve done 19 grandma’s half marathons, and 2 full marathons. ”
Paisley has hundreds of miles under her belt, and she says prepping for a marathon takes months of training.
“I usually use the hal higdon training program, it fits easy with my schedule and i can fit it along with my work schedule, its pretty easy to do. ”
Paisley adds while she enjoys the running, the weekend is also about family.
“I am running the marathon to stay in shape its one way I can be apart of the community and stay in shape, i’m also running with my 16 year old daughter.”
Local experts at the Duluth running company say as runners enter the home stretch of training, moderation is key.
“A lot of runners get very excited about race day coming up, but were moving into that taper period, and so thats a good time to recover your body needs that recovery especially if you’ve been doing that higher mileage.” states Clint Agar, Ceo and Co-Owner of Duluth Running Company.
And whether you’re a first timer, or a seasoned runner, there’s something for everyone.
“For brand new runners who are running grandmas marathon for the first time, we are doing virtual race course tours.” says Grandmas director Mandi Peterson.
There’s even some fun the fans cheering on the thousands of runners each and every mile.
“whats fun about the Duluth running company is were right on the race course so we have a big spectating party on race day of grandmas marathon and grill and have fun.”
And those virtual course tours we heard about there, those will be offered at the DECC on Friday June 21st.
