Iron Range doctor accused of criminal sexual misconduct

EVELETH, MN – An Iron Range doctor is accused of criminal sexual misconduct.

Doctor Edmund William Draper, 71, has been charged with felony criminal sexual conduct in the 4th degree and gross misdemeanor criminal sexual conduct in the 5th degree.

Eveleth Police received a report from an adult female regarding alleged inappropriate sexual touching during the course of monthly medical treatments she received from Draper at a clinic in the city of Eveleth.

According to court documents, the woman said Draper allegedly “touched her buttocks and her breasts” and kissed her on multiple occasions. She apparently took video of one of the incidents, which she showed to authorities.

Police said Friday upon investigating the complaint, they determined there was probable cause to believe Draper has committed criminal sexual misconduct.

The woman had been a patient of Draper’s since 2016. According to court documents, the woman claims the touching was non-consensual and “made her uncomfortable.”

In 2015, the Mesabi Daily News reported Draper was instrumental in establishing a hospice for children in his native England in the 1980s.

Attempts to reach Draper at his office on Friday for comment were unsuccessful.
