LEEUWARDEN, NETHERLANDS – Members of the 148th Fighter Wing are in the Netherlands for a nearly two week NATO exercise.
180 airmen are taking part in Frisian Flag where they’re training on operational tactics in a global setting.
The 148th is joined by Germany, Poland and France in the 12-day event.
First Lieutenant Chaz Smidt says the joint real-world simulation is critical to building relations
“Here’s a chance to work together and practice like we play. We are coming together and training in a non- threatening environment to see how so many countries come together and still execute as needed,” Smidt said.
148th airmen in the Netherlands range from pilots like Smidt to F-16 maintenance workers.
