Twin Ports Islamic Center dedicates prayer service to New Zealand terrorist attack

DULUTH, MN– The Islamic Center of the Twin Ports dedicated part of their Friday prayer service to the victims of the New Zealand terrorist attack.

Board members say Friday’s gathering was exceptionally significant due to what happened on the other side of the globe.

Both Muslims and other community members came together to support and comfort one another.

Local Muslims say they find the attacks devastating but not surprising.

Nik Hassan, from the Islamic Center says,  “I think like everybody else, very much so–every Muslim in Duluth–we’re very devastated it happened. It’s unbelievable. We obviously stand by our Muslim brothers and sisters.”

The Islamic Center urges its members to be patient, and to not react in a way that puts them on the same level of the attackers.
