Warm temps, rain cause issues for snowmobile trails

Rain and warm weather is causing some issues on Wisconsin and Minnesota snowmobile and ski trails.

In Wisconsin, Barron County closed its snowmobile trails at noon Wednesday.

Minnesota’s Jay Cooke State Park officials say their ski trail conditions are poor, while the snowmobiling trails are fair.

“[Jay Cooke State Park] decided to focus on catching up on plowing and to not try to groom the ski trails so the fresh snow can hopefully absorb some of the rain versus turning them into sheets of ice,” according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources website. “We’ll reassess temperatures and forecasts later this week to see if we should groom.”

State Park officials are reminding people not to hike, showshoe, or bring any animals on groomed trails.
