LA POINTE, WI–Officials say they may never know what caused Madeline Island’s only fire hall to burn down.

Less than a week after the La Pointe Fire Hall was destroyed by fire, town administrator Lisa Potswald says the official cause is listed as “undetermined.”

Potswald wasn’t able to give further details. The cost of the damage is also unknown as of Monday afternoon.

The fire broke out early Wednesday morning and destroyed the department’s fire trucks, ambulances, and other gear.

As of Thursday afternoon, the fire crew was back in service, running out of a separate building on the island.

They’ve received donations from several organizations and restored some of their previously out-of-service equipment.
