Superior Police honor their officers for going above and beyond

SUPERIOR, WI — A handful officers with the Superior Police Department were honored for going above and beyond in the line of duty in 2018.

It was all part of the Department’s Annual Awards Ceremony. Officers received plaques, including the Lifesaving Award for their heroic efforts.

Lifesaving Award recipients are directly responsible for someone having lived through a situation when they otherwise would have died.

Sgt. Paul Winterscheidt received his third Lifesaving Award Thursday.

He says it boils down to a desire to protect the public.
“Our job is to save lives–pure and simple,” says Winterscheidt. “I got into this job, literally, to help people. Sometimes I have to help people by taking them to jail. Sometimes I have to help people by protecting them from others. Sometimes I have to help people by treating gun shot wounds.”
Officers who received the awards today saved the lives of babies, resuscitated overdoses, and prevented suicides.
