A large group from Duluth was down at the capitol today.

The Duluth African Heritage community is speaking with lawmakers to lobby for a $7 million dollar investment in an African Heritage Community hub.

The hub is described as an information center to help drive home different social, cultural and business opportunities for Duluth and the Iron Range’s African community.

“I hope to accomplish – just for the legislators to see that we have a beautiful community up here, and we’re not largley represented. So we’re taking the initiative to go down and be heard, and hope to make an impact, and get some funding to be sustainable,” NAACP Community Coordinator Chair, Salaam Witherspoon says.

This is the first time the group has taken the trip down to the Capitol.
