Wisconsin woman dies in Iron County snowmobile crash

IRON COUNTY, WI– A Wisconsin woman is dead after a snowmobile crash in Iron County Friday.

According to the Iron County Sheriff’s Office,  emergency crews responded just before 3 p.m. to Island Lake Road in the town of Carey.

An officer who was at the scene reported seeing a snowmobile fail to slow down at a curve resulting in the driver crashing head-on into a semi.

The driver of the semi was not hurt.

The 43-year-old driver of the sled was taken to a hospital in Ironwood, Michigan and then flown to another hospital where she later died from her injuries.

Speed is believed to be a factor in the crash. The incident remains under investigation.
