DULUTH, MN — The Lake Superior Zoo’s animals had fun with the heavy snowfall Thursday.
The barnyard animals were out enjoying their enclosure, while getting a little extra help from the zookeepers.
Zookeepers say they give the animals a little more food in the winter time and go out of their way to make sure the animals have a clear path to run around on.
“We do bed them down in the winter,” Jessica Phoenix, a Lake Superior Zoo zookeeper, said. “We give them straw in their stalls, which we don’t do in the summer. We can’t hose in there in the winter, so that’s how we clean … we clean up the straw.”
Zookeepers say they make sure to bring the barnyard animals inside when the wind chill reaches a certain point.
