UPDATE: Man in critical condition after fall in Deer River, OSHA investigating

UPDATE: A man is in critical condition Thursday morning after falling 20 feet from a conveyor in Deer River.

According to the Itasca County Sheriff’s Office, Kirk Watson fell Monday morning at the Rajala Lumber work site.

Officials say he was taken to a Duluth hospital, where he is still being treated as of Thursday morning.

There was no immediate word on his condition.

Minnesota OSHA officials had originally reported to KBJR 6 Wednesday the agency was investigating a death. They clarified Thursday morning, saying they are investigating an accident.

DEER RIVER, MN– Minnesota OSHA officials said they are investigating a death at a work site in Deer River.

Officials said a report was filed Monday, and the organization began its investigation Tuesday.

They were not able to offer any further details.

Calls to the Itasca County Sheriff’s Office were not immediately returned.

According to Minnesota OSHA, the organization “investigates to determine the cause of such accidents and whether existing OSHA standards were violated to help avoid a recurrence of similar accidents.”
