WASHINGTON, D.C. — A push from U.S. Congressional Democrats to make sure federal contractors receive back pay in the midst of this government shutdown.

Minnesota’s U.S. Senator Tina Smith, along with 33 other Senate Democrats, are calling on the Trump Administration to direct federal agencies to work with contractors on receiving pack pay for their work.

Smith says low-wage federal service workers, like those in food service, security, and custodial work, live paycheck to paycheck and shouldn’t suffer because they can’t go to work.

“Tomorrow, January 11th will be the first paycheck that federal government workers are missing,” says a frustrated Smith. “A lot of people have been furloughed, other people have been working without getting paid. And there are a lot of Minnesotans and a lot of Americans that are being affected by this, as well.”

Smith says she is also calling on Republican Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell to push for passage of several bi-partisan bills that have cleared the Senate and House.
