Date picked to fill Stauber’s vacant County Board seat

DULUTH, MN — A date has been tentatively set for a special election to fill St. Louis County’s vacant 5th District seat.

At Tuesday’s County Board meeting, commissioners gave preliminary approval to hold a primary election on May 14th with a special general election slated for August 13th.

If two or fewer candidates file, officials say May 14th would become the date for the general election. The filing period for the seat is February 19th through March 5th.

The seat was vacated by now-U.S. Congressman Pete Stauber, whose term on the County Board runs through 2020.

The Board will give final approval on the special election date at their next meeting on January 22nd.

The County Board also named Commissioner Patrick Boyle as Chair for 20-19. Commissioner Mike Jugovich was selected as Vice-Chair.
