Several environmental groups are appealing Polymet’s recently-issued permits to mine.
The Department of Natural Resources issued 11 key permits for the project last month.
The appeals announced Monday are in addition to the separate requests those groups first delivered a formal filing to the DNR and the MPCA November 8th.
The groups, including Duluth for Clean Water, Friends of the Boundary Waters Wildnerness and WaterLegacy say the permits issued should be suspended until the Court of Appeals evaluates their request.
PolyMet is hoping to become Minnesota’s first ever copper-nickel mine.
