Body of missing woman found in Lake County

LAKE COUNTY, MN– The body of a missing 57-year-old Duluth woman has been found in rural Lake County.

According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Janeen Peters’ body was located about 500 yards from her vehicle in a wooded area.

Peters had been missing since mid-November.

On Tuesday, Lake County authorities received a request from Duluth Township Police to check an area on County Hwy 2, just south of Hwy 1, for an attempt to locate a vehicle that was last seen in Lake County on November 11.

Deputies responded to the general area and discovered the blue Toyota van parked in that general area.

Authorities said the vehicle was unoccupied and locked, adding that “it appeared the vehicle had been there for a while and was snow covered with no fresh tracks around it.”

Responding deputies searched the area and called in dogs to help search. Her body was located about 500 yards from her vehicle.

Authorities say her cause of death has not yet been determined. An autopsy will be completed at a later date.
