Barron County Christmas tree decorated, dedicated to Jayme Closs

Barron County, WI (WQOW) – Every year, a Christmas tree lights up the Barron County Justice Center. This year, the tree is in honor of missing teen Jayme Closs.

The Clerk of Courts Office was in charge of the design.

“We started to discuss it, the clerk mentioned it and said, how about we decorate the tree for Jayme’s hope and it just went from there,” said Clerk of Court Sharon Millermon. “There wasn’t another idea that was acceptable this year.”

The tree spells out Jayme’s name and is decorated with green bulbs and green ribbons. Green represents missing and endangered children.

News 18 spoke with Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald. He told us there is no new information on the case to pass along, but his department continues to work the FBI and DCI on the case.

While they continue to search for clues, the tree brings a bit of hope for law enforcement.

“That hope feeling just comes alive inside of me and it is just this awesome feeling in this time of frustration and this unknown out there,” Fitzgerald said. “The hope this tree represents, and this community has built, has been tremendous for law enforcement working this case.

News 18 also reached out to Jayme’s aunt Jennifer Smith. She told us the tree is just beautiful and brought many tears to her eyes. She added her family needs Jayme and they will not give up hope before the holidays come.
