Cause of Ashland duplex fire considered suspicious

ASHLAND, WI – The Ashland Fire Department says the cause of a duplex fire that injured two people is considered suspicious.

An explosion and fire at the building located at 312th 11th Avenue West happened around 10:45 a.m. Tuesday.

People nearby reported hearing a “pop” before the fire sparked on the second story, the fire department said.

The 41-year-old man and 29-year-old woman hurt in the fire were taken to Memorial Medical Center with burns. There was no immediate word on their conditions.

Damage is estimated at $90,000.

The Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation is looking into the cause.
