Minnesota man suspected in fire that killed 2 young sons

BIG LAKE, Minn. (AP) — Authorities say two toddlers have died in a Minnesota house fire that investigators believe was set by their father.

Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office says in a release that police and firefighters responded to the blaze at about 5:30 a.m. Friday in Big Lake, about 40 miles (65 kilometers) from Minneapolis.

The release says boys aged 1 and 2 years were killed and their father was critically hurt in the fire. Two other children, aged 7 and 9 years, were also injured.

The sheriff’s office says investigators are guarding the father at the hospital.

The state Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.

A media representative of the sheriff’s office hasn’t returned an Associated Press reporter’s phone message seeking comment.
