When Krystal was in middle school, she realized she belonged in news when she was the only one in her seventh grade social studies class who knew who the Prime Minister of Great Britain was when her teacher asked. When asked how she knew, Krystal simply responded with “I watch the news.” Krystal has always had a fascination with current events around the globe, but realized she wanted to stick closer to home and to family by working in Duluth!
Krystal joined the KBJR 6 news team in March 2014 as a part time production assistant, and was then promoted to morning show and noon show producer in December of 2014. After that, Krystal became the station’s Internet Director in the summer of 2016, and is now the station’s Social Media and Digital Content Manager. She attended St. Cloud State University and graduated with a four year degree in Mass Communication with an emphasis in Broadcast Journalism, and also graduated with a minor in Spanish. Although she works close to home now, she spent two months abroad in Concepcion, Chile as an intern at TVU, located just off the University of Concepcion campus. While there, she was able to dive deep into Chilean culture, and learned about their government and history, and developed a taste for fresh seafood! She says if you ever get the chance, travel to Santiago, as the city is absolutely beautiful.
Krystal grew up in North Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, but frequently made trips to Ashland and Washburn with her parents and brother while growing up to visit her grandparents, as well as other relatives, who still live in the area today. She is an avid football fan, and will never say no to cheese curds! You know it’s football season when trying to make plans with her on a Sunday, as she never misses a Packer game. She enjoys spending time with her family, swimming in Lake Superior (when it’s warm enough), and creating her own recipes.
