In Two Harbors the city’s annual Winter Frolic was the talk of the town this weekend. On top of games and special events there was also a vintage snowmobile ride. In this week’s Get Outdoors Meteorologist Adam Lorch hops on an old sled and checks out the winter festival.
On a frigid Minnesota Morning…”Well it was 13 below I think we’re hoping to hit, like, eight.” said Shannon Klinker, the Organizer of the Vintage Sled Ride.
The purr of snowmobiles filled the air for the annual Vintage Snowmobile Ride in Two Harbors.
Klinker said, “Bunch of people getting together with their old slides and having a great ride. Meeting new friends, family and friends, a day of fun no matter what’s the weather.”
It’s all a part of the Two Harbors Winter Frolic. A festival designed to get people out and together in the middle of winter. But the Vintage sled ride starts just outside of town.
“Starts at our house, about 6 miles north of two harbors. And it will end at the two harbors golf course where the whole winter frolic is going on.” said Klinker.
This year I was invited to join in the ride! And I got to ride an old Arctic Cat along side a former Minnesota Viking player.
Doug Sutherland, a Former Purple People Eater, said “An old Arctic Cat Pantera, which was the Cadillac of snowmobiles back in the day.”
One of the Purple People Eaters, Doug Sutherland, came along to enjoy the festivities.
“People are out having fun and I see they’re building a fire over here and I see they have a big tent. We’re just gonna have fun up here in the frozen northland.” said Sutherland.
If there’s one word of advise for those cooped up this winter instead of getting outdoors it’s…
“You know what just have fun, hit the gas and go.” Klinker said.
Along with partaking in all the winter fun, Adam was *also the celebrity judge.. in this weekend’s snowman-making contest.
