BARRON, WI – Authorities have released more information in their investigation into 13-year-old Jayme Closs’ kidnapping and the murder of her parents.

Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald says Closs has reunited with her aunt, and will be reunited with the rest of her family later on Friday evening.

Authorities say she is doing as well as circumstances allow, and they will allow her to settle in.

In addition, the Sheriff’s Office says a gun was recovered at the scene of the initial homicide, but they are still waiting for confirmation that it is indeed the same weapon.

The gun found at the scene was a shotgun, according to Fitzgerald.

He says the gun was also used to shoot open the Closs home, however the door was not shot in.

Fitzgerald says the suspect in the case, Jake Patterson, 21, minimized his footprint at the scene by shaving his head so he wouldn’t leave hair behind.

Authorities say Patterson had specific intentions to kidnap Jayme and doesn’t appear to have had any contact with Jayme’s parents during his one-day employment at the Jennie-O turkey plant in Barron.

Fitzgerald said Patterson was not at home while Jayme escaped, and they are still investigating how she escaped.

The Sheriff says he believes Patterson was out looking for Jayme when he was arrested.

Patterson will make his first appearance in Barron County court at 3:30 p.m. on Monday.
