Discussing Book Across the Bay with Ben Thoen

ASHLAND, WI– The city of Ashland hosts a unique event each winter, called Book Across the Bay, and Ben Thoen sat down with Dan Wolfe to talk about the event.

For those who don’t know what Book Across the Bay is, the event is a10 kilometer race where anyone can ski, snowshoe, run, walk, trek, etc across Chequamgeon Bay.

There’s one catch however – the event is held at night with no lights, other than luminary lights that are made and a bonfire at every kilometer.

Thoen says around 3,000 people attend the event, and it’s a cross between a hardcore event and an event where people can come out and have a good time.

As we all know, Mother Nature sometimes doesn’t want to cooperate, and Thoen says they are pretty creative if weather can become an issue. He says 2020’s event will be the 24th year the event has been held, and the event has never been cancelled, or delayed.

Thoen also added that last year’s event saw people representing 42 states and a few countries.

2020’s event will be held on February 15 at 6 p.m. with registration opening on September 15, 2019.
