DULUTH, MN — It’s not all elite athletes competing this weekend – kids from the area were able to participate in the annual Whipper Snapper race at Bayfront Park Friday afternoon.
The race, which has been going on since 1991, offers thousands of kids the chance to compete in what’s many of their very first races.
The kids ran different distances depending on their age.
Parents say it’s a lot of fun for everyone.
“Just getting the family out and about and giving the girls to get a chance for some fun time running and just the festivities of it all. They got to try rock climbing earlier and just new stuff, getting out today and just enjoying a nice day,” said members of the Peterson family, who participated in Friday’s race.
Most of the kids ended the race with smiles on their faces.
