MnDOT: I-35 drivers may see additional delays ahead of Grandma’s weekend

DULUTH, MN– For those traveling to Duluth on I-35 for Grandma’s Marathon, you’ll want to leave a little earlier.

MnDOT says traffic backups and delays will be likely, as the volume of traffic will increase ahead of Grandma’s Marathon due to the thousands which gather in the city to run, or to watch, the race, as well as construction on I-35.

Here are a few of the projects going on which drivers may encounter:

  • Single lane closures on I-35 at State Highway 70 near Pine City
  • Monday, June 17, 6 a.m. to Thursday, June 20, 6 p.m. there will be single lane closure on northbound I-35. Both northbound I-35 lanes will be open Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
  • Monday, June 17, 6 a.m. to Saturday, June 22, 3 p.m., single lane closures on southbound I-35. Both southbound I-35 lanes will be open Saturday after 3 p.m. and all day Sunday.
