Get Outdoors: Fall Fishing the Brule

Remaining Ad Time Ad - 00:00

Fall for anglers means its time to hit the rivers around Lake Superior.

Cory Wehrman, of Wehrman’s Fishing Adventures, said “This time of year we’ve got both Coho and king salmon, along with Brown trout and rainbow trout, or steelhead.”
Fishing Guide Cory Wehrman took me out on the Brule River to find some fish. The day we went out it was 65 and sunny, great for us, but not helping the bite.
“This year we’ve been blessed with warm temperatures and cursed with warm temperatures. I mean it’s great for getting outdoors and enjoying the outdoors but getting on the water, and the bite has been a little bit inconsistent.” said Wehrman.
The first spot we tried yielded no bites, so Wehrman brought us to another spot. He says this is the key to getting more bites.
Wehrman explained, “Keep moving around, the fish aren’t pooled up in any one given area right now. You catch one or two fish in there yeah, keep moving. Keep bouncing around.”
You should also keep a close eye on the structure you’re fishing.
“Gravel bottom. The sand irritates their gills, so the sandier bottom towards shore here, it won’t hold as much as the rockier and gravel bottom out there.” Wehrman said.
After a few hours and only one fish that shook off, we called it a day. Sometimes fishing is just that, and not actually catching. But fishing is never time wasted.
Wehrman says, “There’s more to it than just catching a lot of times. You’re on the famous Brule River right now. Four presidents have fished it and it’s on a lot peoples bucket list to come up and enjoy this opportunity on the Brule.”

If you’d still like to get out and fish this fall… You can fish on the Brule until November 15th.
