Giants Ridge is knows for it’s beautiful ski hills in the winter… But in the summer months, Giants ridge has been adding more and more to their mountain bike trails. In this weeks Get Outdoors, Meteorologist Adam Lorch checks in on their progress.

Big things are happening up at Giants Ridge. Over the last several years they have been opening several new bike trails.

Benji Neff, the Director of Mountain Sports Giants Ridge, said “This is the third trail that we’ve opened in our mountain bike park. It’s called kitty cat because it parallels the cat track on the ski hill.”

The kitty cat trail is a green trail, meaning it’s perfect for beginners. And this new trail will be incorporated into the upcoming mountain bike race called ‘The Grind’.
“We have an 18 mile and a 38 mile race. 18 mile is a pretty good beginner to intermediate adventure ride.” Neff explained.
And if the 18-mile race doesn’t sound like enough of a challenge, you could always up the ante.
Neff said, “The long grind is challenging, even though it’s 38 miles and a lot shorter than let’s say a 100 mile mountain bike race. But you do quite a bit of climbing because we use our cross country ski trails so you get a lot of vertical in in that 38 miles. It can be pretty challenging.”
Last year, about 250 people participated in the races. This year the organizers are hoping new trails will draw in more mountain bike enthusiasts.

“A lot of fun for mountain biking enthusiasts and their kids and families and even people who are just starting to get into mountain biking.” said Neff.

The race will be held on August 17th and registration is still open. Registration info HERE
