Beyond the Headlines: One-on-one with Gov. Tim Walz

DULUTH, MN — From education, to environmentally safe mining, and fixing a broken online driver’s licence and vehicle registration system: these are just some of the things on the priority list for Minnesota’s new Governor Tim Walz.

Since taking office in January, the democratic governor has promoted his vision of “One Minnesota.”

And last week, Governor Walz was in the Northland as part of a statewide education tour to highlight his education proposal.

In this episode of Beyond the Headlines, Dan Wolfe had the chance to sit down with the governor during his visit to Duluth, and talk about some of his top priorities while in office.

The full interview can be seen here in three parts. Here is a list of subject matter that Gov. Walz addresses:

  • Gov. Walz’s proposed bonding bill this legislative session, and two projects in our region that made the list (renovations at UMD, and funding for a proposed high-speed rail between Duluth and the Twin Cities called the Northern Lights Express)
  • Minnesota’s 2019 legislative session so far
  • The housing crisis in Duluth
  • Governor Walz’s first two bills signed since taking office, including one paying for fixes to the troubled MNLARS system.
  • Enbridge Energy’s proposed Line 3 oil pipeline replacement project
  • PolyMet’s proposed copper-nickel mine on the Iron Range
  • Twin Metal’s proposed copper-nickel mine near Ely
  • Education
