VIRGINIA, MN–  Still no word on what caused a garage fire that seriously injured an Iron Range man.

It happened on the 1500 block of 9th street south in Virginia Monday night.

When Virginia, Eveleth, and Mountian Iron fire departments responded to the scene, the garage was engulfed in flames.
The fire, combined with a strong wind made the fire expand from the garage to the side of the home next door and a car in the driveway.

The man who was injured suffered severe burns and was taken to a local hospital.

Virginia Fire Chief Allen Lewis wasn’t able to share his name or his condition tonight.

But he added that having fire alarms, smoke detectors, and two exits to any building is extremely important when it comes to fire safety.

Chief Lewis says, “I’d just like to emphasize for people, to know two ways out. Whether it’s your home, whether it’s your shop, no matter where you know two wats out and have an escape route. Make sure your smoke alarms work and your carbon monoxide detectors work.”

The Fire Marshal’s office hopes to wrap up its investigation soon.
