DULUTH, MN — Duluth police say Grandma’s Marathon weekend went smoothly in Canal Park, thanks to increased patrols.

The department says it didn’t respond to any major incidents over race weekend.

They increased their patrols by 20 to 25 times as many as they normally assign to Canal Park.

The Duluth fire department and K9 officers from the St. Paul Police Department were also on hand, along with the Duluth SWAT team.

The department says after events like the Boston Marathon bombing, studies show having a SWAT presence makes race-goers feel safer.
