DULUTH, MN — One of the runners in Saturday’s marathon is very familiar with the course. That’s because Jim Nowak has run every Grandma’s Marathon since it started in 1977.

He still wears the t-shirt from that original race. Tomorrow will be number 43.

Nowak grew up in Duluth and says the scenery keeps him coming back each year.

“I’ve always loved Lake Superior,” said Nowak. “It’s just a beautiful place to be. It’s probably one of the most beautiful courses in the whole United States.”

He said his main focus is getting through Saturday’s marathon, but he said he’d like to make it to 45 consecutive races, or maybe even 50.
