Cass County ATV crash injures two

UPDATE – 4:07 p.m

Cass County Sheriff Tom Burch reports that the ongoing investigation has revealed that information provided to law enforcement during the initial investigation was false and that the driver of the ATV was Kristine Johnson, age 20 of Remer MN, with passenger Benjamin Swankier, age 21 of Remer.

The investigation continues with charges pending.

BOY RIVER, MN — Two people are recovering from injuries after an ATV crash in Cass County.

The crash happened in the city of Boy River near Brainerd.

Authorities say 21-year-old Benjamin Swankier and 20-year-old Kristine Johnson, both of Remer, MN were on the ATV when it left the Soo Line Trail, striking multiple trees.

Both were taken to the hospital.

Swankier, the driver of the ATV  was later air-lifted to a Duluth hospital where he was treated for serious injuries.

Authorities say alcohol is believed to be a factor.
