DULUTH, MN– A 16-year-old has died following what police call a shooting in Duluth’s Lincoln Park neighborhood.
According to Duluth Police, they responded to the 2100 block of West 3rd Street around 2:47 a.m. Monday on a report of a gunshot.
Authorities do not have a suspect in custody, but police say they don’t believe there is a threat to the public.
“Being this is currently an active investigation in the early stages, we will provide an update when more information becomes available,” police wrote in a press release.
KBJR 6 spoke to an employee at a nearby gas station Monday, who says the surrounding community is still on edge.
“I feel safe when there’s more than one person working. Otherwise, yeah, I get the fear that something bad is going to happen,” Ashley Johnson said. “It’s not like nobody is going to have that fear, but I just try to go as best as I can.”
It’s unclear at this time what led up to the incident, how many people may have been involved, or if any of the parties were known to each other.
“It makes me feel really sad because I used to live in the area and there’s not been much crime like this in the past,” Johnson said. “I was born and raised in West Duluth and just seeing that there was a shooting in the area, it’s sad that people have to go that far.”
