Lawmakers fight back against internet scams

Minnesota attorney general Keith Ellison is fighting back against internet scams as part of National Consumer Protection Week.

Minnesota, along with sixteen other states, are joining a year-long effort to stop tech-support scams called “Tech Support Sweep.”

Ellison filed a lawsuit in early January against Bloomington based “Teknicians” for scamming consumers.

In these cases, scammers use phone calls and online pop-up ads to trick consumers into contacting them and providing remote access to the consumers’ computers.

They then try to pressure consumers into buying unnecessary computer repair services or service plans.
